News Letter

January 5th 2010

I hope that you have all had a good new year and have survived the Christmas break without any golf at Old Padeswood. The course simply hasnt been fit to play and indeed it was considered a health risk to allow people to venture out onto the course.

This has been proved correct as Rob Lydon was checking the course out after the break slipped on some ice by the 15th green and dislocated his knee cap he is now of work for a minimum of six weeks!!! Thank goodness the grass isnt growing.

Monthly Newsletter December 2009

The ever-improving golf course attracted attention from numerous people as we held our Open Competitions, the Flintshire/Carmarthonshire match the Flintshire Pro Am, and our four charity days. The comments received were very positive with only one negative comment on the lack of yardage posts. Most people said how good the course is with more trees, narrower fairways and excellent greens. Flintshire County Council have already pre-booked their Pro Am in 2010.

The catering/bar side of the club has moved forward rapidly since Carl Willis took over, culminating in the annual Dinner Dance, attended by 116 members and guests, who had a terrific evening.

We now feel that we can achieve anything we want within the clubhouse and are currently forming a Social Committee to organise next years functions. Let me know if you have any ideas.

We had a very good attendance at the presentation night on Sunday 29th. There were a few winners who did not turn up or send their apologies. The Honourable Secretary sends every winner notification and for those unable to turn up, a simple phone call expressing your apologies would be appreciated.

We have a Carol Concert on the 13th December and keep an eye out for posters for golf and food on Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Congratulations go to:

The Scratch A Team, who have been promoted for the second year running.

The Junior Section who have had great success in Flintshire, with Gareth Rodon and Rory Harrison in particular, who were selected for the Welsh U16 squad.

The AGM will be held on 19th February 2010 with a dress code of jacket and tie.

Finally the Lady Captain and I wish the members of Old Padeswood Golf Club and their familys best wishes for the festive season and the New Year.
